Green Mining
In recent years, Matmaa Mining Company has paid special attention to the environment and the protection of vegetation, as well as the development of indigenous communities, and has carried out major activities in this regard in the form of research projects.
Perhaps the most important question in dealing with mining and quarrying is what will happen to nature? With this level of destruction and extraction of resources and depletion of soil, will anything remain for the earth and future generations? Can nature and the environment be restored to the life cycle in mined areas?
Guide to Restoration and Reconstruction
The importance of nature and the need to move towards green mining can provide a path to exploiting mineral reserves with minimal damage to the environment. In this regard, Matmaa Mining Group has made environmental measures one of its main priorities in order to achieve sustainable development and cause minimal damage to the environment.
This booklet was prepared by Matmaa Mining Group’s rehabilitation and reconstruction team in Shahrivar 1403.
Atlas of Morvarid Plants
The purpose of preparing this atlas, in which 117 plant species were identified, is to understand the vegetation texture and climate of the region in order to determine the plants that will be used for the reclamation and planting project in the region. In addition to guiding the Matmaa complex in restoring the vegetation cover of the region, this atlas will also be available to the villagers, and the villagers will gain more knowledge of the plants of the region in addition to their indigenous knowledge.
Water Resources Management
Since 2022, in cooperation with the Natural Resources Organization, projects such as the rehabilitation of the three western tailing dumps (7 hectares in area) and the planting of trees on the access roads to the mine have been initiated and completed.
Management of the extraction pits’ drainage and the study of surface water resources are among the projects currently being investigated by the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Unit in the Zanjan Morvarid Mining Area.
Botany Workshop
A one-day specialized botany workshop for children in the Morvarid Plain was held in collaboration with Dr. Majid Eskandari, a prominent researcher of Iranian native plants, in May 2025. This program was designed to improve children’s ecological knowledge and promote scientific methods of field research.
