What is prioritized at the Morvarid iron ore mine is ensuring the safety of employees in the mine and paying attention to their occupational health. Undoubtedly, this commitment both guarantees effective response to legal obligations and pursues the satisfaction of other key stakeholders of the organization, including company owners and employees’ families. Fulfilling legal obligations and moving towards establishing management standards in the field of health and safety is Metma’s main approach in this area.
The management and operational mechanism in the field of health and safety is a combination of a functional structure and a participatory matrix. “Health and Safety Management” operates as an independent unit under the CEO of the company. Also, the development of programs and monitoring of the progress of affairs in this area is carried out in interaction with the “Sustainability Management” unit. On the other hand, the activity of the “Safety and Health Strategic Committee”, with the membership of the company’s senior managers (CEO, Sustainability Manager, Complex Manager, Technical Manager, and Safety and Health Manager), has provided an effective mechanism for strengthening interdepartmental cooperation.

In terms of the performance of the Metma Mining Group in the field of safety and health, the following programs and measures can be cited as key examples of the company’s commitment in this area:
- Complying with legal obligations and continuous interaction with responsible bodies, including: conducting pre-employment and periodic examinations; providing work clothes and personal safety equipment; holding regular meetings of the Technical Protection and Occupational Health Committee; continuous presence of a safety expert in firefighting operations and ensuring compliance with safety requirements.
- Periodic assessment and determination of safety and health risks; approving the relevant plan and budget in the Board of Directors and the Safety and Health Strategic Committee; implementing and continuously monitoring improvement and corrective programs and measures.
- Holding educational and promotional programs, including: attendance of employees in general and specialized safety and health training courses; recognizing exemplary safety workers throughout the year; publishing posters and educational clips.
- Implementing employee health support programs, including: allowing all employees to benefit from supplementary medical insurance services and paying 60 percent of the aforementioned insurance contribution by the company; Providing healthy snacks during both morning and evening shifts at the mine and processing plant; allowing employees to use sports facilities under company contract.
- Interacting with representatives of the surrounding community to observe safety considerations before and during the fireworks display, including: sending text messages or sounding sirens before the fireworks display; and prohibiting movement in the announced areas.
